Buying sunglasses usually comes down to style. But two terms matter for your eyes and comfort: UV protection and polarization. They're often confused, and they are not the same thing.
UV protection: the part that matters most
Sunlight contains ultraviolet (UV) rays, and Indian summers bring plenty of them. UV protection is about blocking those rays, and it has nothing to do with how dark the lens looks. A very dark lens with no UV filter can be worse than no sunglasses at all: your pupils open wider behind the dark tint and let more UV in.
Look for lenses labelled 100% UV protection or UV400, which blocks UV wavelengths up to 400 nanometres. On EYVRO, check the UV protection row in a product's Specification section. If it isn't listed, ask us before you buy.
Polarized lenses: less glare
Polarized lenses have a special filter that cuts reflected glare, the harsh flat light that bounces off roads, water, car bonnets and glass. People often find them more comfortable for:
- Driving on bright days
- Beaches, rivers and boating
- Long days outdoors
Things to know: polarized lenses can make some phone screens, car dashboards and ATM displays look dark or patchy at certain angles, and some pilots and heavy-machinery operators are advised not to use them.

Choosing a tint colour
- Grey / black: reduces brightness evenly and keeps colours natural. A good all-rounder.
- Brown: warm view with good contrast. Popular for driving.
- Green: natural colours with a slight contrast boost.
- Blue: mainly a fashion choice, with a cool look.
